Before the phenomenal costs of the American health care system can be contained we must first alter fundamental assumptions that equate health and disease management. Only by shifting the focus of health care dollars from disease-management to empowering individual wellness can we turn away from a war on disease and expand commonsense life practices that support living well and enjoying life. Duggan convincingly argues that this is the multi-trillion-dollar national conversation to be had. A wellness-based future requires a dual focus: encouraging entrepreneurs to seek profit-based wellness program solutions, and ending regulations that inhibit diversity in health-care options.
