This book is the parent’s companion to A Handbook of TCM Pediatrics. It is great to either sell in one’s waiting room or give away to the parents of one’s pediatric patients. It is also meant to bring more pediatric patients to the offices of Western Chinese medical practitioners.
This book covers all the most common pediatric diseases in an easy-to-read style for parents and laypersons. It begins with an overview of Chinese medical theory regarding pediatric disease and then discusses 38 of the most common pediatric complaints in chronological order based on when children typically develop them. Included are everything from colic and croup to whooping cough and hyperactivity. Under each disease, the reader will find a brief discussion of the different types of patterns one typically encounters, what acupuncture and Chinese medicine have to offer, and tips on diet and home remedies. In addition, this book includes information on the Chinese medical point of view on vaccinations and antibiotics and the importance of a graduate series of responses, from simple home remedies to professional care, be that Eastern or Western.

“Having been in practice for 20 years, I know how tiresome it can be to repeat certain information over and over and over again. One way to get around that is to have plenty of patient information materials in one’s office. In particular, I believe that the Chinese medical advice on the care and feeding of infants and children is some of the most valuable information in Chinese medicine. Therefore, I have done everything I can to make this information more widely known in the West. Most chronic diseases in the middle-aged and elderly begin due to faulty feeding and feeding in infancy and young childhood. If we can build a firm foundation during youth, this can beneficially effect one’s health one’s whole life.” -Bob
